Do you know?
What is a “SYNOD?”
How is your Synod is organized?
Why are we organized as a Synod?
Who makes the decisions?
Who’s really in charge?
Join host James Likens and his special guest Dr. Karl L. Barth, former district president, President Emeritus of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, director of the 150th Anniversary Celebration of Synod, and the author the new book, “Just a Chip off the Old Blog,” as they examine the structure and governance of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
If the congregations of the Synod are going to be asked to change how things are done, doesn’t it make sense to understand how things are done?
DVD includes PowerPoint presentation and .pdf document with script.

The Blue Ribbon Task Force on Synod Structure and Governance was appointed in 2005 by LCMS President Gerald B. Kieschnick to "do a thorough, zero-based assessment of the entirety of the system of governance and organizational structure ... [with] recommended improvements [that] ... suggest a form of structure and governance for the decades ahead.” Those recommendations will be presented to the District Conventions that will be held during 2009 and once delegates to the 2010 Synod convention are elected, the president of the Synod will host regional delegate caucuses to present the proposals, concepts, and options for consideration and discussion at that point. The final report of the task force, which will be the result of its lengthy work-in-progress, will be presented to the 2010 Synod convention for consideration and discussion the first two days of the convention.
